2020 at 5 Points: A Year Turned Upside Down

Little did we know, when ringing in the new year, what a ride 2020 had in store for all of us. In the midst of being turned upside down, we navigated our way through 8+ months of a changed world as a ‘new normal’ came into focus. The story of 5 Points Music is one of resilience and resolve. Together, as a board, as a team of volunteers and staff, as a family, as a community, we came together and conceptualized how to bring live music back in a safe and responsible manner. At the same time, we maintained a dedicated intent and purpose towards our mission of providing music therapy, hearing loss advocacy, and accessibility programming throughout the year.

Weeks of brainstorming resulted in the 5 Points Outdoors series, both in front of our venue on Maple Ave. and in Wasena Park. These platforms allowed us to explore universal design concepts in an outdoor setting, while also providing us critical support in funding our broader music therapy and hearing loss advocacy efforts.

Sitting at the end of this upside down year, we are hopeful for the future of live events and live music in 2021 and ever grateful for all of the love and support we have received this year to help us stay focused and committed to pursuing the power of sound in all its glory. Cheers to possibility and forward momentum, and a happy new year to you all. Check out our retrospective of an unexpected roller coaster of a year.
