The Power of Sound

OCTOBER is National Audiology Month and National Protect Your Hearing Month. Hearing loss is permanent and cannot be reversed. As a music venue, 5 Points Music Sanctuary is committed to raising awareness about hearing loss and preventative measures you can take to preserve your hearing. Before each show we educate performers about what we do and why we do it. Our policy is to keep the concert sound level at 95 decibels. That’s about 10 dB higher than a noisy cafeteria and about 15 dB lower than your average concert. We also provide free foam ear plugs to all of our guests that decrease sound exposure 29 dB. And all of our efforts at the Sanctuary are working to launch our new initiative, Soundfriendly.com, where we educate and empower businesses in monitoring noise levels and protecting their workers. Join us on our mission by attending one, two or a few events this month!

THURSDAY kicks off a mega run of events for October at 5 Points Music Sanctuary. And what a kick off it is! Melvin Seals and JGB return for what is looking to be another capacity crowd at 5 Points. Melvin has been faithfully carrying on the legacy of Jerry Garcia since his death in 1995 and is accustomed to filling venues much larger than our Sanctuary. Seating options are limited and availability at the door can’t be guaranteed. So purchase your tickets now to make sure you don’t miss out on this incredible night!

FRIDAY is our inaugural Golf for Sound tournament and even if you aren’t a golfer, you can still rock out at the after party with us! The amazing singer/songwriter Nora Jane Struthers will be here with her band The Party Line and Roanoke’s own Jordan Harman will be kicking off the night.

SATURDAY we continue the celebration of ladies named Jane with Hayley Jane & The Primates! This dynamic band knows that a killer performance looks AND sounds like and deliver every time. If you caught their show at FloydFest, you know what we mean.

SUNDAY take all the inspiration from this week and bring your own talents to the stage for Open Mic Nite. Our great friends, Whitney Lewis (from the Buck & Griz show) and Rick Godley (of The Kind) make this night possible. Whitney hosts the event and mans the soundboard, while Rick provides the drum kit and stage support. But we also rely on YOU to bring the magic! Join us every first and third Sunday of the month.
