The FDA has cleared the way for hearing aids to be sold over the counter, starting as soon as mid-October 2022. Following years of campaigning by lawmakers and advocates, a new category of over-the-counter hearing aids will make the devices affordable and accessible to millions who suffer from mild to moderate hearing loss. This is a huge win for the hearing impaired community, many of whom struggle to afford the high cost of being tested and fitted for hearing aids through a professional audiologist.
